Why Us?
Over the past 40 years, we’ve adapted and innovated to meet the challenges posed by our ever-changing world. Now, more than ever, we take our responsibility towards the planet, our people, and the communities we serve seriously, working hard to be a force for good.
Our identity
Across all our businesses we aspire to be the silver bullet. A simple solution to every client’s requirements. We take care to understand individual client needs and align our approach to ensure we deliver seamlessly, without complication.
Ability.
Our broad-ranging abilities and
in-house expertise are a force to be reckoned with.
We’re proud to pack a punch whilst remaining grounded in our family-owned roots. Independence affords us
the freedom to act quickly and decisively.
Delivery.
We like to think of ourselves as a partner, not a supplier.
Our expert teams are backed up by an impressive fleet of plant & machinery, allowing us to self-deliver projects and services, whilst reducing our reliance on third parties. This is what gives us our edge in the marketplace.
Integrity.
Integrity is in our DNA.
We work hard to foster transparent, trusting relationships with all our clients and we’re proud of our reputation for overcoming challenges and seeing things through.
Social Value
Our social value delivery model focuses on education; health & wellbeing; the environment; economic equality; diversity; and responsible procurement, ensuring we leave a lasting legacy for our communities whilst providing our people with fulfilling and rewarding careers.
In 2016 we partnered with Wiltshire College to create the MJ Church Academy which aims to develop and train the next generation of Civil Engineers, Site Managers and Quantity Surveyors by providing high-quality workplace visits with stimulating and challenging practical and theoretical workshops. Head to our careers page to find out more.
The MJ Church Charitable Foundation has been set-up to support local charities, community and educational groups of all types and size and we have a long-standing partnership with RUHX, the charity for Bath Royal University Hospital.
This year, we reached a lifetime donation milestone of £250,000, contributing to the purchase of a state-of-the-art surgical robot for cancer patients which has helped to reduce invasive techniques and recovery time.
Supported by the Lighthouse Charity and our in-house mental heath first aiders, we’re helping to break down the stigma associated with mental health.
We’ve held several ‘help inside the hard hat’ toolbox talks across our sites to kickstart the conversation around mental health & wellbeing.
MJ Church is proud to support Mentoring Plus. This excellent charity helps 5- to 25-year-olds to feel connected through award-winning mentoring schemes, youth clubs and inspiring activities programmes in in Bath & NE Somerset.
Sustainability & Net Zero
The UK construction industry emitted over 10 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2021, and the civil engineering sector accounted for a third of these emissions. Our journey to net zero includes several strategies to reduce the impact of our operations on the environment.
Zero Emissions Compounds
Recycled Aggregates
We work seamlessly with our waste management business to reprocess construction and demolition wastes into recycled aggregates, significantly reducing the need for virgin resources such as gravel, sand, type 1 and fill materials.
Over the past 18 months, we’ve utilised 45,000 tonnes of recycled aggregate on our projects, equating to a carbon reduction of 7,105 tonnes of CO2.
Diversion from Landfill
Our group-wide knowledge of sustainable construction materials, waste reduction strategies, effective waste segregation and recycling techniques puts us one step ahead, and over the past 12 months, we’ve successfully diverted 500 tonnes of our construction waste from landfill.
GIS
We use Trimble Earthworks, an advanced grade control platform that leverages sophisticated technology to help our operators work smarter, faster and more efficiently.
During a trial conducted in 2019, Trimble earthworks was shown to help operators complete their work 30% faster and with 75% more accuracy.
