This scheme involves dualling an 18km section of the A465 between Merthyr Tydfil and Hirwaun, South Wales.
This project will improve access to key services, jobs and markets supporting inward investment to areas like the Ebbw Vale Enterprise Zone.
Our scope includes bulk earthworks, rock breakout, material modification and processing, and we’re delivering the whole project using our own plant & machinery and an experienced team of operatives.
At the heart of the scheme is a drive to deliver positive social impacts for the area, and MJ Church is particularly proud of its contribution to this agenda through the creation of local skills and employment opportunities, along with a significant improvement to the project’s overall sustainability.
During delivery, we used 89% local labour, created 122 jobs and 8 apprenticeships, and successfully diverted 400,00m3 of waste from landfill by redesigning landscaped areas.
We held a Girls in Engineering Day on site to give a group of aspiring female engineers an insight into a career in construction. The day involved a ‘Meet the Ambassador’ session led by our Quality Manager Gemma Borley, who described her career journey, followed by theory and practical sessions on setting out, and finally a tour of the site.
