An opportunity for an Estimator has now opened at MJ Church within our Contracting team, based in Chippenham. Reporting to the Bid Manager, this is a full-time and permanent position with a view to commence as soon as possible. Key Tasks & Responsibilities;

  • Initial enquiry assessment and completion of tender start up summary
  • Presentation of tender to senior management at pre-tender meetings
  • Prepare and obtain subcontract enquiries for the relevant work streams
  • Put together estimate from first principles using estimating software
  • Specifically, responsible for making sure estimate is right and correct upon completion including labour/plant/material rates, outputs, preliminaries and subcontracts
  • Liaise with Pre-Construction Manager and Bid Manager throughout the bid process
  • Foster relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
  • Attend pre-bid meetings with customers
  • Comply with and maintain the MJ Church bid management system
  • Attend post bid interviews and present bid content to customers
  • Attend at present at internal tender reviews and handovers

Person Specification:

  • Professionally qualified and accredited, ideally to degree level
  • 5 years plus experience
  • Knowledge of Causeway or similar estimating software package
  • Experience of pricing from first principles
  • Earthworks and Civil Engineering background preferred
  • Ability to develop client confidence
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to read, understand and organise construction plans and specifications
  • Ability to multitask, prioritise and work well under pressure to meet established deadlines

The standard working hours for this role are Monday to Friday 8.00am – 5.30pm.
